The site of Nordegg was once the largest producer of coal briquettes in Canada. Through various artifacts and pictures, the Nordegg Heritage Centre interprets the history of the area's mining community during the early 1900s. Tours of the Brazeau Collieries Minesite Industrial Museum leave from the Heritage Centre daily.
National Historic Site is the locale of the David Thompson Puppet Theatre (takes bookings).The Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site with its interpretive Museum brings visitors back to the days of David Thompson and the Fur trade. May to September 10-6PM.
The Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site protects the archeological remains of four trading posts built between 1799 and 1875. Visitors to the site can learn all about the history of Rocky Mountain House's competitive trading, nine First Nations cultures and explorer David Thompson. Activities include interpretive programs, the David Thompson Puppet Show, interpretive trails, indoor and outdoor exhibits, and the Playfort. The site is located 6 km (4 mi) west of town on Highway 11A.
Opened in May 1996, the new Icefield Centre is a beautiful chalet-style stone building created to serve half a million visitors every year. This facility is of an environmentally sensitive design. Relax in the dining room, the cafeteria or the snack bar, visit the expanded gift shop, and stop by the new and expanded Parks Canada Interpretive Centre. Improved parking and restroom facilities have been added for comfort and convenience. This is also the base for the Brewster Ice Explorer tour onto the Columbia glacier.
