• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Lookouts & Observation Decks in Icefields Parkway Region, Alberta.
Goat Lookout is roughly located 38 km south of Jasper in the Icefields Parkway Region, and off Highway 93. This spot, complete with Mount Edith Cavell nearby, offers breathtaking views of the mountainous area that is the Athabasca River Valley. This region is also a great place to observe wildlife, including mountain goats and bighorn sheep, because of the exposed glacial deposits found in a spot just above the Athabasca River. Visitors are cautioned to keep their distance, and warned against feeding wildlife.
A short hike through an alpine meadow takes visitors to the crest of Parker Ridge which provides an excellent view of the Saskatchewan Glacier, the largest tongue of the Columbia Icefield. Other visible glaciers include the Athabasca, Andromeda and Castleguard glaciers. The ridge is located 113 km (70.6 mi) south of Jasper and l17 km (73 mi) north of Lake Louise.
