While in Jasper, be sure to see one of the worlds' most scenic highways, the Icefields Parkway. Explore the six kilometre tongue of ice known as the Athabasca Glacier, part of the Colubmia Icefield in Jasper National Park. Guided interpretive hikes visit millwells, seracs and crevasses for an exhilarting and safe tour. Tours range from three to six hours, and include crampons, gloves, hats and rain jackets. Reservations are strongly recommended in July and August.
Explore the largest icefield south of the Arctic Circle by way of the Ice Explorer, an all-terrain passenger vehicle. Complete with guided commentary, passengers travel to the Athabasca Glacier and step onto ice that is over 400 years old and 300 m (1000 ft) thick. Tours run from April to October and last for 90 minutes.
